Thanks to KindMeal, I've been eating very well these days.
In fact, I've been eating like a king. Or a princess, if you'd rather, considering the fact that we're talking about Princess Fa-Ying, sister of Rama V, here.
So I've been eating like a glutton of a princess. For a fraction of the price.
My latest KindMeal discovery is Fa-Ying at Paradigm Mall. Considering the very reasonable price, I had expected the portions to be small. Which only proves my parents right: Never Make Assumptions. But I digress.
I ordered the Green Curry set meal and in a moment of genial insanity ordered an appetizer of tempura papaya and morning glory and a sinful helping of Tham Thib Krob.
The rest of my review will be a series of exclamations of surprise:
"Wow, this tastes just like Bangkok street food!"
"Oh man, look at the generous portions, I am screwed!"
"This is so good! I bet (insert names of over 40 friends) would like to try this!"
"Why haven't I come here before? It's just on my way home from work!"
The curry was rich, with an artery-clogging dollop of coconut cream on top of a fragrant stew of tofu cubes, green beans, brinjal and daun kadok. The lemongrass drink was the perfect foil for the intense flavours of the curry. The tofu cubes were lightly fried and silky smooth on the inside. The vegetables were fresh and firm, not swimming sadly in a pool of congealed coconut goo as I had previously experienced at another wannabe Thai restaurant.
Close your eyes and I assure you it's not difficult to imagine that your pot of curry had made its way from the streets of Patpong, through the Suan Lum night bazaar and on to your table on the back of a tuktuk. Five stars.
