I ended up here ( Hailam Kopitiam, SS2 PJ ) because Green Meadow, being unequivocally Chinese, refuses to serve me after 9 pm. That's why I hate dining with the Chinese. They always insist on calling me to dinner at an unnatural hour when I am just about to go running or cycling. Anyway, Hailam Kopitiam looked promising, and like many of the newer cafés and restaurants, they actually have at least one page on their menu dedicated to vegetarian / vegan food. It used to be that we had to settle for greasy brown fried rice with microscopic specks of frozen veggies in them. I ordered the Mushroom and Veg ' Oyster ' with rice. When my food arrived, I kicked myself in the butt for not having gone for banana leaf rice at Usha's instead of paying RM8.90 for this 4 - ingredient meal. There's precious little vegetables, and the rice was hard and pokey, like when you reheat leftover rice in the microwave without loosening the clumps up first. What sorry class of Asian can't even cook rice? The mushroom thing was tasty, but then again, it's almost impossible to go wrong with mushrooms. Thanks for the effort, Hailam Kopitiam, but maybe today's just not your best day, I hope tomorrow will be a better one.

Lol... sometimes I go there for their coffee and bread. Haven't tried their rice though... now I'll think twice :)

Sorry to say, after 9pm only banana leaf rice or mamak will always be the better option. Feel bad for you...
