Almost all the instructions for cooking artichoke in a microwave you can find on Google will ask you to wrap the artichoke in cling film. I'm here to tell you it's not necessary. Here's the Lazy Microwave Hack for making yourself an artichoke for supper:
1 Wash artichoke and trim off stem and pointy tips.
2. Put in a microwaveable bowl and add water, until half to two-thirds of the artichoke is submerged. Add a dash of salt, a bay leaf, a dash of lemon juice, some lemon zest and some Italian herbs.
3. Microwave on high for approximately 4 minutes. Use a spoon to flip the artichoke over. Microwave for another 3-4 minutes.
4. The artichoke is done when the petals come off easily when pulled.
Bon appetit!

I can't find an equivalent word to describe it. As far as vegetables go, it's quite umami. A little mushroomy, a little olive-y, a little avocado-ey.
