Dyk That In The U.s., Eggs Cannot Legally Be Labeled As Healthy, Nutritious, Or ..

DYK that in the U.S., eggs cannot legally be labeled as ‘healthy,’ ‘nutritious,’ or 'safe' to eat?

The American Egg Board is a promotional marketing board appointed by the U.S. government whose mission is to “support America’s egg farmers and increase demand for eggs and egg products.” Because they are overseen by the federal government, corporations are not allowed to lie with those funds. So if an egg corporation wants to dip into the 10 million dollars per year the American Egg Board reserves for advertising, it has to avoid misleading claims.

According to the FDA, a “healthy” food has be low in saturated fat (eggs are not) and have less than 90mg of cholesterol per serving (even half an egg has more than that). As Dr. Michael Greger puts it, "for the same reason we can’t tout ice cream for strong bones, we can’t say eggs are healthy because they exceed the threshold for cholesterol."

Because more than a hundred thousand Americans are food poisoned by Salmonella from eggs every year, eggs cannot even be called "safe," and in fact, is why the American Egg Board can’t even mention anything but to cook eggs hard and dry.
