Horses Give Prisoners A Second Chance
Horses Give Prisoners a Second Chance
While convicts are usually in prison for good reason, society often forgets how difficult life can be for people who truly want to reform their ways. After release, inmates often finds themselves falling back into old habits because they are unable to get a job or develop useful skills for an honest living.
An innovative programme in Maryland, USA gives inmates skills they can use to find employment upon release. Programmes like these greatly reduce the likelihood of re-offending and help keep them on the right path. The inmates are also providing much-needed care for rescued racehorses who would face a very uncertain future otherwise – definitely a win-win scenario!
"You know, we all have kindness inside of us, but you kinda forget," says one of the inmates, whose work with the horses has reminded him of his innate compassion. Let's not forget our kindness. Let's vow to do less injury to animals, to each other, and to the planet we live on.
How about starting with your next meal and making a KindMeal.my statement by eating meat-free?
