HAPPY EARTH DAY 🌏💚 Going vegan translates to an active consumer decision of not playing a role in animal agriculture, which is one of the most environmentally destructive industries in the world.
There are arguments that vegans tend to eat imported goods which racks up carbon footprint. But as @diyana.eco said in a live chat yesterday, isn’t that what *everyone* is doing? The mindful thing to do is to eat as local and as package-less as possible, whatever diet you are on.
‘Sayur Lemak’ (vegetables with turmeric coconut gravy) is a part of the local plant-based narrative that I love recreating in my kitchen. This time I threw in sweet potato leaves, cabbage, carrot, steamed eggplant and the beautifully hefty snake beans (I’ve been told they are native to Borneo). A tiny sprinkle of chopped ginger flower and a serving of Kelantan red rice strengthens the #eatlocal game.
My eco-conscious collective The Green Guerrilla is currently hosting ‘The Greenest Week Ever’. Join us these next few days for insightful live conversations on how we can all continue to make a positive impact. Full schedule at @thegreenguerrilla.asia.
