Experimenting the new Omnimeat product! It's basically a minced "pork" made from shiitake mushrooms, pea, soy and rice.
My mum cooked a delicious steamed pork with preserved cabbage, where the chewy "pork" texture is very realistic. It also tasted great in the sambal petai minced meat tofu, adds a meaty chewiness to the dish!
This "meat" is medium in solidness, so it's good to replicate meat dishes where the real meat is cooked soft. It may not be as realistic if made into a burger patty, as it would be softer than real meat.
It is quite pricey at Village Grocer, which sells a 230g pack for RM 19.90, which is good for cooking 1 dish. I later found a cheaper option, which is to buy the 1kg pack at RM 57.60 from The Meat Expert at Damansara Heights, effectively a 33% discount from the Village Grocer price.
